Elections Reporting Training - 14 to 16 Sept 2015, Chake Chake, Pemba

 

As a part of PROPEL Zanzibar project activities, the Elections Reporting Training kicked off today on the island of Pemba. Twenty-six radio, newspaper and TV journalists started the discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing the journalists one month ahead of the general elections in Tanzania. The journalists were very eager to share their ideas, and learn about the technicalities of ethical reporting, the electoral process, and reflect on their role in exacerbating or tempering hate speech.

 

The training will continue for two more days until 16th september, giving the opportunity to also discuss gender in the media, the legal framework around the elections, freedom of speech as well as engage in field work. The training is co-organized and co-facilitated by one the project associates of ECES in the PROPEL project, Tanzania Media Women Association represented by Shifaa Hassan.
